Old Woman (老婆, Rōba) is the 59th chapter of the Parasyte manga series, written and illustrated by Hitoshi Iwaaki.

Overview[]

Shinichi runs through the forest, thinking back on his time spent with Migi. Shinichi soon is taken in by an old woman named Mitsuyo, it's there he's able to recover. After Mitsuyo shows Shinichi around her village, and having a couple of drinks, Shinichi notices small signs that Migi may still be alive.

Summary[]

Shinichi wanders around aimlessly, thinking about all the time he spent with Migi. He eventually collapses near a house where an old woman is watching television. She hears him moving outside and goes to see. At first, she is wary of him and thinks he might be a thief, but quickly decides he's harmless due to his quiet nature and distraught appearance. She invites him in, cleaning his wound and making him food, and watches as he struggles to use his left arm.

As he prepares to leave, she invites him to stay for the night, as he would have nowhere to go. Shinichi begins to call her "obaa-san", and she instead tells him to call her Mitsuyo. Shinichi offers his own name, and she calls him Shin-chan.

The next morning, before he can leave, Mitsuyo tells him that she was planning to go shopping and asks for his help. Left without an argument, Shinichi agrees. On their way, they pass several men from the village who question who he is, and she calls him her nephew. She then tells Shinichi that they're just suspicious because strange things have been happening around town. After they pick up the groceries, Mitsuyo shows Shinichi a mountain of burnt trash dumped in the area by outsiders.

Shinichi continues to stay with Mitsuyo for a few days, unsure what to do now that Migi is gone. He eventually decides that he has to return home and tell his father about everything, including Migi. Hearing of his plans to go, Mitsuyo decides the two of them should drink for his last night here.

That evening, Shinichi dreams of a small, bug-eyed critter. The two of them converse, with Shinichi sadly telling it that his friend is dead. It instead tells him that his friend is still alive, and that it knows the friend's name. Shinichi wakes up, shouting Migi's name. He finds an eye on his arm due to the few cells left behind, but it vanishes without saying anything.
